KASHMIR:Unemployment can certainly contribute to social problems such as drug addiction, as it can lead to feelings of hopelessness, frustration and low self-esteem. When young people are unable to find work, they may turn to drugs or other destructive behaviors as a way of coping with their situation. This is particularly true in areas where there are few opportunities for employment and little hope for the future.

According to the Economic Survey of Jammu and Kashmir, the unemployment rate among youth aged 18-29 was 22.5%, and now it is 23% in 2023 which is significantly higher than the national average. This high level of unemployment has been identified as a key factor in the rise of drug addiction and other social problems in the region.

This could include investments in infrastructure, tourism, and other industries that have the potential to generate employment and boost economic growth. Additionally, efforts should be made to improve access to education and training programs, and to provide support for young people in developing the skills and experience they need to succeed in the workforce. By addressing the root causes of youth unemployment, it may be possible to reduce the incidence of drug addiction and other social problems in Jammu and Kashmir.
