
In a significant development for the Shia community in Jammu & Kashmir, the All India Shia Personal Law Board (AISPLB) has appointed Maulana Agha Syed Abbas Rizvi as its General Secretary for the Union Territory for a three-year term, effective 19th January 2026. The appointment, communicated via an official letter from the AISPLB headquarters in Lucknow, has been welcomed by community leaders and activists across the region.
Prominent sociopolitical activist Agha Syed Karar Hashmi of Dab, Ganderbal, and a dedicated student of Jamia Al-Mustafa International University, Qom, Iran, has extended his warm congratulations to Maulana Rizvi. In his statement, Hashmi commended the AISPLB leadership for their decision, expressing confidence that the new General Secretary’s tenure would usher in a period of positive engagement and community cohesion.
“The appointment of a respected figure like Maulana Agha Syed Abbas Rizvi Sahab is a step towards strengthening the institutional framework for our community in Jammu & Kashmir,” stated Hashmi. “While his role encompasses broad socio-religious guidance, I earnestly appeal to him to prioritize a crucial area: the educational upliftment of our youth and the holistic development of the student community. Investing in education is the cornerstone of sustainable progress and empowerment.”
Hashmi, himself immersed in higher Islamic studies, emphasized that a special focus on scholarships, career guidance, and modern education alongside traditional learning will build a stronger, more resilient future generation. He expressed hope that under Maulana Rizvi’s secretaryship, the AISPLB’s J&K unit would launch concrete initiatives aimed at academic support and skill development.
